We're live at Sony's Mobile World Congress press event, where the company is launching two smartphones and a tablet: The Z2 and M2 smartphones, and the Z2 Tablet.
We'll start with Sony's new flagship smartphone, the Z2. Like most devices launching at Mobile World Congress, the Z2 has a new Snapdragon processor, the 801. Like the Snapdragon 800, the 801 is a quad core, 2.3 GHz chip with an Adreno 330 GPU. Ghz aren't everything though, and Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 801 is faster than the Snapdragon 800. The Z2 has a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 3GB of Ram, and a 3200mAh battery. The Z2 is yet another device adding 4K video capture to it's spec list, and being a Sony Mobile product, it is, of course, waterproof. The highlight of the device seems to be the 1/2.3-inch, 20.7 MP sensor. Sony is calling this the "world's best mobile camera," which is a pretty bold claim. Sony is one of the few companies with the imaging chops to pull off something like that, but we won't be able to really test that for ourselves until we get a review unit. It launches globally in March 2014.
The Z2 Tablet has the same 2.3 GHz 801 Snapdragon and 10.1-inch display, a 6000mAh battery, 8.1MP rear and 2.2MP front cameras, and a 6000mAh battery. We don't know the RAM or screen resolution yet, but we'll update once Sony's spec sheets go live. The waterproof Z2 Tablet is 6.4mm thick and launches globally March 2014.
